AIIMS Bhubaneswar Opens Liver Transplant Clinic

Bhubaneswar: In a major step towards enhancing liver care services, AIIMS Bhubaneswar has inaugurated a dedicated Liver Transplantation Clinic, paving the way for advanced liver transplantation services in the region. The initiative aims to address the growing demand for liver transplants and marks a significant milestone in the institute’s commitment to providing world-class healthcare.
The clinic was inaugurated by Dr. Shailesh Kumar, President of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, in the presence of Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, Executive Director, and Dr. Dillip Kumar Parida, Medical Superintendent. This specialized clinic is designed to streamline patient evaluation, listing, and pre-operative optimization for those in need of liver transplants, ensuring a structured and multidisciplinary approach to liver care.
“With AIIMS Bhubaneswar gearing up to commence liver transplantation services, the need for a dedicated clinic to evaluate and list patients suffering from End-Stage Liver Disease (ESLD) is paramount. This initiative will bridge the gap in liver care and offer a ray of hope to countless patients,” said Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, Executive Director.
The Liver Transplantation Clinic will be jointly managed by the Departments of Surgical Gastroenterology, Gastroenterology, Pediatric Surgery, and Pediatrics. Additionally, a Liver Transplant Coordinator and Nutritionist will be part of the clinic, ensuring holistic patient care. The clinic will cater to patients from Odisha and neighboring states, offering comprehensive evaluation, transplant listing, pre-operative optimization for donors and recipients, nutritional counseling, and transplant-related guidance.
The clinic will operate every Tuesday from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM at Room No. 222 in the Gastro OPD Complex.
The launch event was attended by prominent faculty members, including Dr. Manas Panigrahi (HoD, Gastroenterology), Dr. Bramhadatta Pattnaik (HoD, Surgical Gastroenterology), Dr. Sanjay Giri (HoD, Burns & Plastic Surgery), Dr. Subrat Sahu (Pediatric Surgery), Dr. Taraprasad Tripathy, and Dr. Ranjan Patel (Radiology). Other dignitaries, including the Superintendent Engineer, faculty members, and nursing staff, were also present.

The Liver Transplantation Clinic is expected to provide lifesaving interventions for patients suffering from chronic liver diseases, ensuring improved healthcare accessibility and better treatment outcomes.
