World Junior Badminton: Sen gets bronze

Markham: Ace shuttler Lakshya Sen settled for a bronze medal after losing to Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand in the World Junior Badminton Championships.

The 17-year-old went down 22-20 16-21 13-21 to Vitidsarn in the semifinal which lasted for an hour and 11 minutes on Saturday.

Earlier, in July, Sen had beaten Vitidsarn in straight games in the final of the Badminton Asia Junior Championships.

This is India’s only medal in this edition of the world juniors and the last time it was Sameer Verma, who won the bronze in 2011. This apart, Sai Praneeth and HS Prannoy had also won bronze in 2010, while Saina Nehwal had clinched gold in 2008.
