Youth Kills Father to Avenge Mother’s Death in Rourkela

Rourkela: In a shocking incident in Bhalupatra village under Brahmani Tarang police limits, a 22-year-old youth allegedly murdered his father to avenge the death of his mother.

The accused, identified as Bishnu Barma, was detained by police shortly after the incident and has reportedly confessed to the crime. According to police sources, Bishnu claimed that his father, Kranti Kumar Barma (55), had killed his mother several years ago and served a jail term for the crime. He was released from prison in December 2024.

Following his release, Kranti Kumar allegedly continued to display violent behaviour. Bishnu told investigators that his father frequently assaulted him and was also accused of harassing women in the village.

Police have launched a detailed investigation into the matter and are currently questioning the accused to gather more information.
