Youth Injured in Accidental Firing During Drunken Revelry in Sundargarh

Bhubaneswar: A 21-year-old youth sustained injuries in a gunshot incident in Banthupada area of Rajgangpur town, Sundargarh district, late Monday evening.

The injured, identified as Mohammad Samser of Idaga Mahalla, suffered a gunshot wound to his hand after a firearm accidentally discharged while he and his friends were allegedly handling weapons under the influence of alcohol.

According to initial reports, two rounds were fired during the incident. Samser was rushed to a hospital in Rourkela for treatment. His condition is said to be stable.

Sources said the group was engaged in merry-making while in possession of guns, and the firearm went off accidentally.

Police have launched an investigation to determine how the youths gained access to the firearms and whether the firing was accidental or involved any criminal intent. A case has been registered and further inquiry is underway.
