Youth Allegedly Beaten to Death at Bhubaneswar Rehab Center
Bhubaneswar: A 36-year-old man named Sumant Panda was allegedly beaten to death at a de-addiction centre under Airfield police limits in Bhubaneswar. Sumant, a resident of the Unit-6 area, was admitted to the centre on Sunday evening.
According to reports, the centre’s staff reportedly abandoned Sumant’s body at the Capital Hospital on Monday morning and fled the scene. Medical authorities informed Sumant’s family of his death, and when they arrived, they found his body unattended, with no staff from the centre present.
Family members observed multiple injuries on Sumant’s body and accused the de-addiction centre staff of fatally assaulting him. They filed a complaint at the Capital Police Station, alleging foul play.
Police have sent Sumant’s body for an autopsy and launched an investigation into the incident.
