Women T20 WC: India Outplay WI by 6 Wickets

Cape Town: Indian women continued their winning spree in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup on Wednesday, by defeating West Indies with a convincing 6-wicket margin. After beating Pakistan by 7 wickets in their opening match, Harmanpreet & Co displayed the same tempo and positive attitude on Wednesday, outplaying the Caribbean team in all departments of the game.
Skipper Harmanpreet (33 runs in 42 balls) and young keeper Richa Ghosh (unbeaten 44 in 32 balls with 5 hits to the fence) shared a match winning 72-run 4th wicket partnership to fashion yet another Indian win in the tournament.
Ghosh continued her fine form the recent Under 19 World Cup, which India won beating England in the final. Indian openers Shafali Verma and fit again vice captain Smriti Mandhana had a 32-run first wicket partnership in just 3.3 overs in the low scoring tie.
Earlier electing to bat, the Caribbean women were restricted to 118/6 in the allotted 20 overs, with Stafanie Taylor’s 40-ball 42 and Shemaine Campbelle’s 30 in 36 balls. For India, seasoned all-rounder and ‘Player of the Match’ Deepti Sharma was the chief wrecker with an impressive 3 for 15 figure.
