Woman Allegedly Gangraped on Gopalpur Beach; Seven Detained

Ganjam: In a shocking incident, a woman was allegedly gangraped in front of her male friend at Gopalpur beach in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Sunday, coinciding with the celebration of the Raja festival.

According to reports, the woman and her friend were visiting the beach when they were attacked by a group of around ten men. The assailants allegedly overpowered the male companion, tied his hands, and proceeded to sexually assault the woman. Reports indicate that at least three of the accused took turns raping the victim.

Following the incident, Gopalpur police registered a case and have detained seven suspects for questioning. Sources suggest that all the accused are residents of the Hinjili area in Ganjam district.

The brutal crime has sparked outrage across the region, prompting calls for swift and strict action against the culprits. Police said the investigation is ongoing and further details will be shared after preliminary inquiries are complete.
