Wild Elephant Attack Claims One Life, Injures Another in Bargarh

Bhubaneswar: A tragic incident occurred in Turacha village under Padampur block of Bargarh district on Wednesday morning, where a wild elephant attacked two women, leaving one dead and the other critically injured.
According to reports, the women were collecting mahul leaves when the elephant suddenly appeared and attacked them. One of the women died on the spot, while the other sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR) for treatment.
The Forest Department had reportedly issued a prior warning about the presence of the elephant in the area. However, the victims were seemingly unaware of the alert. The identity of the deceased woman is yet to be confirmed.
Forest officials have reached the location and are closely monitoring the elephant’s movement to prevent further mishaps. The incident has triggered panic among locals, prompting renewed calls for stronger measures to mitigate human-elephant conflict in the region.
