Vigilance Arrests Daringbadi BEO

Kandhamal: Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested a Block Education Officer (BEO) of Daringbadi for reportedly misappropriating Rs 20 lakh from the teachers’ pension scheme under the Daringbadi block in Kandhamal district.

The BEO, identified as Rasananda Kar, has been accused of transferring Rs 10 lakh from the National Pension System of teachers into his personal account and investing it in the stock market in two phases starting from January. According to an official statement from the Odisha Vigilance department, they have been monitoring Rasananda for several months following reports of government fund embezzlement. After gathering substantial evidence, he was apprehended and is currently undergoing interrogation.

Vigilance Inspector Kumudini Sahu stated, “We initiated an investigation upon receiving credible information regarding the alleged misappropriation of teachers’ pension funds by BEO Daringbadi, Rasananda Kar. He has been arrested, and we will further investigate to gather more details.” Vigilance officials are currently investigating how Rasananda managed to transfer such a significant amount into his account and whether he received assistance from anyone in the process.
