Veteran CPI Leader Dibakar Nayak Passes Away at 72

Bhubaneswar: Veteran Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Dibakar Nayak passed away at the age of 72 at the CPI state office, Bhagvati Bhavan, in Bhubaneswar. His death marks the end of an era in Odisha’s Left politics.

Nayak had a long and distinguished political career, serving as the state general secretary of CPI and as a member of the party’s national executive. Known for his dedication to leftist ideology and grassroots activism, he was widely respected within the party and beyond.

Born in Sendchitira village of Bhadrak district, Nayak entered politics through student activism. He was notably elected as the students’ union president of Bhadrak College, which marked the beginning of his lifelong commitment to public service and political engagement.

The CPI has expressed deep sorrow over his demise. His mortal remains will be kept at the party headquarters in Bhubaneswar until 11 AM today to allow party members, supporters, and well-wishers to pay their last respects.

His last rites will be conducted later in the day at his ancestral village in Sendchitira, Bhadrak.
