Varanasi waterways terminal:Inauguration today

PM Modi inaugurated the Varanasi Waterways Terminal at Varanasi Monday by receiving a container vessel that had set off sail from Kolkata on October 30.

The terminal is being built as part of Government’s Jal Marg Vikas Project that aims to develop the river Ganga between Varanasi and Halide for navigation of large vessels.

The JMVP entails construction of three multi-modal terminals (Varanasi,Sahibganj and Haldia),two inter-modal terminals, five roll on-roll off terminal pairs, new navigation lock at Farakka, vessel maintenance facility, and river training.

The inland waterways will be a critical addition to the country’s infrastructure and will boost the economy.
