UTP Commits Suicide in Jail

Malkangiri: An under-trial prisoner (UTP) allegedly committed suicide inside the Sub Jail in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Saturday. The deceased under trial prisoner has been identified as Bidhan Mirdha, a resident of Mv 33 village in Korukonda Tehsil of the district.

As per reports, he and his second wife were lodged in the Malkangiri Sub Jail and were facing trial in a murder case. Though the exact reason behind his death is yet to be known, his family members have alleged that he has been murdered and demanded a proper investigation into the matter.

Mirdha’s body has been seized by the police and sent for post-mortem. The cops have also seized the CCTV footage of the jail. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
