Utkal University Seeks Police Help to Evict Illegal Occupants

Bhubaneswar: Authorities at Utkal University have approached the police to initiate the eviction of unauthorized occupants residing on the university campus in the Odisha capital.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Sabita Acharya has written a formal letter to Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania, requesting police support to remove outsiders who have allegedly been staying on the premises illegally for several years.

According to the Vice Chancellor, these unauthorized occupants are not only residing unlawfully but are also allegedly influencing students and inciting unrest on campus over trivial matters. “Such illegal occupation has created an environment conducive to anti-social activities within the campus,” she stated in her letter.

Highlighting the potential for disturbances during the eviction drive, the VC emphasized the necessity of police presence. “There is an apprehension of undesirable situations that may lead to a law and order issue during the eviction,” she wrote, urging the DGP to direct the Commissionerate Police to assist with the process.

The issue has already sparked tension, with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) recently threatening to launch a protest demanding the removal of outsiders from the university grounds.

The university administration is now awaiting police support to carry out the eviction smoothly and restore order within the campus.
