Utkal University Hostels Will Not Be Shut Said Arun Sahoo
Bhubaneswar (Reporters Today Bureau): The higher education department, Following a protest by the students of Utkal University against immediate closure of educational institutions and hostels, was put the decision on hold.
The hostels of Utkal University will not be closed now till further decisions will be taken following the covid 19 situations in the State, said Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo.
“Students of PG department of Utkal University met me and discussed their demand. They said that their stay in a hostel is crucial in order to finish the courses and to focus on their study,” Sahoo told newsmen.
“On the basis of their demand, we will request the vice-chancellor and the higher education department will take the decision to let hostels remain open with strict adherence to Covid-19 safety protocols,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Hundreds of students of Utkal University staged a demonstration today as they took to the streets and blocked the NH-16 objecting against the BMC’s direction immediate closure of educational institutions.
