Two Women Killed in Wall Collapse Amid Rain in Nuapada

Nuapada: Tragedy struck Patkarpali village under Lakhana police limits on Saturday morning as two women lost their lives and a child sustained critical injuries in a wall collapse triggered by incessant rainfall.

The deceased have been identified as Balamati Shabara (35) and her aunt Rupe Shabara (61). The two had gone to an under-construction poultry farm around 11 AM when a section of the wall suddenly collapsed, burying them under debris. The farm is being constructed under the supervision of Balamati’s husband, Dibakar Shabara.

A young girl, Ridhi Shabara, who had accompanied the women, was critically injured in the incident. Upon receiving the alert, Lakhana Police immediately reached the spot, rescued the injured child, and rushed her to the hospital. The bodies of the two women were recovered later from the rubble of bricks and cement.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the village, with residents mourning the sudden and tragic loss.

Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a yellow warning for Nuapada district, predicting heavy rain, thunderstorms with lightning, and gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph in isolated areas. Authorities have urged residents to remain alert and avoid unsafe structures during the ongoing rainfall.
