Two Killed, Three Injured in Rourkela Train Accident

Rourkela: A tragic accident at a railway crossing in Rourkela, Odisha, claimed two lives and left three others critically injured on Tuesday night. The mishap occurred around 10 PM in Sundargarh district.

The victims, who were returning from Vedvyas on three bikes after shopping, attempted to cross the closed level crossing gate at Kalunga on the Howrah-Mumbai line. Unaware of an approaching Express train, they ducked under the barrier but were struck by the speeding train heading from Rourkela towards Howrah.

The deceased have been identified as Pankaj Sharma from Himachal Pradesh and another individual from Jareikela, whose identity is yet to be confirmed. The injured are undergoing treatment at the Rourkela Government Hospital after being initially admitted to a nearby facility.

The impact of the collision was severe, causing two victims to be thrown a distance and killing them instantly. The Government Railway Police reached the scene and sent the bodies for postmortem. Investigations are underway.
