Two Killed in Separate Incidents in Rourkela, One Critical

Rourkela: In a disturbing turn of events amid growing safety concerns, two persons were killed in separate incidents in Odisha’s Rourkela city under Sundargarh district. One youth succumbed to injuries after a brutal attack, while the body of another man was found with his throat slit.
The first incident took place late Wednesday night at Chhend VSS Market. Mukesh Kar (21), a resident of Jiabahal village under Brahmani Tarang police limits, was allegedly attacked along with his friend Rishi Prasad by a gang armed with knives and sharp weapons. The attack, according to Mukesh’s elder brother Biswa Ranjan Kar, appeared to be premeditated. In a police complaint, he named Roshan, Om Prakash, and several others as the accused.
Locals rushed the severely injured duo to Rourkela Government Hospital. Due to the severity of their injuries, both were referred to JP Hospital. However, around 2 am on Thursday, Mukesh succumbed to his injuries. Rishi remains in critical condition, hospital authorities confirmed.
In a separate case, the body of a ragpicker was discovered early Thursday morning in the Gandhinagar area, with his throat slit. Police suspect murder, though the victim’s identity and the motive behind the killing remain unknown.
Investigations are ongoing in both cases. The twin incidents have heightened public concern over rising crime in the city.
