Transperson Arrested in Bhubaneswar Chain Snatching Case

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has arrested a transperson from neighbouring Jharkhand in connection with a chain snatching case that took place nearly 10 months ago in Odisha’s capital.
The accused has been identified as Subhashree Pani, police said. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP)Jagmohan Meena, Subhashree had allegedly snatched a gold chain from a woman in the Niladri Vihar area of Bhubaneswar in July last year.
Following the incident, a case was registered based on the victim’s complaint, and an investigation was launched. After months of efforts, police traced Subhashree to Jharkhand.
A team from the Commissionerate Police travelled to the neighbouring state and arrested the accused, who was then brought to Odisha on transit remand, the DCP informed.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to mortgaging the stolen gold chain to a bank in order to avail a loan. DCP Meena added that legal action will be initiated against the bank for accepting the gold without proper verification or documentation.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
