Traffic Advisory Issued Ahead of PM Modi’s Visit to Bhubaneswar on June 20

Bhubaneswar: In view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Bhubaneswar on Friday, June 20, the Commissionerate Police has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory to ensure smooth vehicular movement and public safety.

The Prime Minister will attend a public programme at Janata Maidan and take part in a roadshow from Biju Patnaik International Airport to the venue. As a result, traffic congestion is expected across several key routes in the city between 3 PM and 6 PM, or until the event concludes.

The roadshow is likely to affect major junctions including Airport Square, Capital Hospital Square, AG Square, Raj Bhawan Square, Power House Square, 120 Battalion Square, Shastri Nagar Square, Behera Sahi Square, Jaydev Vihar Square, XIMB Square, and NALCO Square. Commuters have been strongly advised to avoid these routes during the specified hours and plan their travel accordingly.

To facilitate smoother traffic flow and manage the large number of visitors expected for the event, the police have implemented diversions and alternate routes. Vehicles coming from Cuttack (NH-16) will be rerouted via Rasulgarh service road → Vani Vihar → Acharya Vihar → Apollo Hospital → Sainik School. Similarly, vehicles from Khurda (NH-16) are advised to take Jaydev Vihar service road → Acharya Vihar → Apollo Hospital → Sainik School → NALCO Square → Kalinga Hospital Road. Parking for these commuters will be available from Railway Colony Golei Chhak to Utkal Hospital and Hatiasuni Chhak.

Vehicles coming from Nandankanan will follow the NALCO Square → Kalinga Hospital Road route, with parking arrangements similar to those from Khurda. Those arriving from Puri are instructed to take the Kalpana Square → Raj Mahal → Sishu Bhawan → Capital Hospital Square route. Parking will be available from Sishu Bhawan to Capital Hospital.

In preparation for the large turnout, multiple designated parking zones have been established across the city for two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and buses. These include areas such as Airport Golei to Pani Tanki, Meteorological Ground, Shastrinagar to Engineering School, Behera Sahi to Nicco Park, Swadhinata Sangrami Ground, Kalinga Stadium, Salia Sahi Jatra Padia, Sainik School, Hatiasuni to Utkal Hospital, and JK Paper Lane to Shyama Dham. A separate parking area has also been arranged for media vehicles near NISER.

In addition to commuter advisories, restrictions have been placed on the movement of heavy goods carriers with six or more wheels. Vehicles traveling from Khurda to Cuttack will be diverted from Pitapalli Square via Chandaka Square, bypassing Bhubaneswar entirely. Conversely, vehicles from Cuttack to Khurda will be rerouted via Balikuda Square, Trishulia Square, and Pitapalli. These restrictions, however, do not apply to emergency services such as ambulances and fire tenders, which will be allowed unhindered passage.

The Commissionerate Police has appealed to the general public to cooperate with the guidelines issued and avoid unnecessary travel in the affected zones. The advisory is aimed at reducing traffic disruptions and ensuring the safety and convenience of both commuters and attendees during the Prime Minister’s visit.
