Tihidi Violence: 12 Arrested, Internet Suspended in Bhadrak
Bhadrak: In response to a violent incident that took place on May 30, 2025, in Tihidi under Bhadrak district, Odisha Police have arrested 12 individuals and imposed a temporary internet shutdown across several areas to prevent the spread of misinformation and maintain communal harmony.
The case, registered as Tihidi Police Station Case No. 197/2025, has been filed under Sections 126(2), 296, 118(2), 109(1), 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The complaint was lodged by the wife of the deceased, who alleged that her husband was brutally assaulted during a confrontation between two groups.
According to investigating authorities, the deceased had tried to intervene and de-escalate the conflict when he was attacked by the accused. All 12 arrested individuals have been presented before the Hon’ble Court as part of ongoing legal proceedings.
In anticipation of potential unrest, a robust security arrangement has been put in place:
- 27 platoons of police have been deployed across sensitive areas for crowd control, route patrolling, and ensuring law and order.
- Six Executive Magistrates have been assigned to oversee police operations.
- Videography of ongoing events is being conducted by the Inspector of DCRB, Bhadrak.
- Fire and ambulance services have been placed on standby for emergency response.
To further ensure peace and prevent the circulation of provocative content, the Bhadrak district administration has temporarily suspended internet and social media services from 6:00 AM on June 12 to 6:00 AM on June 13, 2025, in the following regions:
- Bhadrak Municipality
- Bhadrak Block
- Tihidi Block
- Dhamnagar Block
- Dhamnagar NAC
This restriction has been enforced under Section S(2) of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, in conjunction with Rule 2(1) of the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency/Public Safety) Rules, 2017.
DIG, Eastern Range, Balasore is closely monitoring the situation. Authorities have appealed to the public to remain calm, cooperate with officials, and refrain from spreading rumors or engaging in inflammatory activities. Efforts are ongoing to ensure the safety and harmony of all communities in the district.
