Tigress Sundari: Drama ends

Angul,06-11-2018: The drama of chasing and and attempting to tranquilize tigress Sundari repeated attempts of tranquilizing the Royal Bengal Tigress, the wild cat has finally been captured after a month of hide-and-seek.

According to sources, the wild cat was tranquilized near the Shiva Temple in Majhipada area of Satkosia Forest Reserve. Sundari will now be taken to the Raiguda Enclosure after which the further course of action will be decided.

On November 2, a trained elephant named ‘Jashoda’ was transferred from Chandaka to Satkosia to expedite the tranquilization process. Two special teams that were roped in from Kanha and Pench Tiger Reserves in Madhya Pradesh had resumed the tranquilization operation on Sunday after mounting on Jashoda’s back.

Odisha Forest and Environment Department Minister Bijayshree Routray has already said that the ‘intelligent’ creature is likely to be brought out of Satkosia and relocated to Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar, once captured.

A huge hue and cry had ensued after tigress ‘Sundari’ had allegedly mauled two human to death in the nearby villages over the last three months. While locals had demanded for immediate relocation of the wild cat, this respite for the villagers finally comes after several attempts to capture ‘Sundari’.
