Tigress ‘Jamuna’ Released into Similipal Reserve Core Area
Baripada: Tigress ‘Jamuna’ was released into the core area of Similipal Tiger Reserve in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district today, over a week after her translocation. At around 10 AM, the 2-and-a-half-year-old tigress left her soft release enclosure and ventured into the surrounding forest. Authorities confirmed that she has now settled in the core area.
Jamuna, who was translocated from Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra on October 28, was initially placed in a 2-hectare soft release enclosure within the reserve. Forest officials had expressed concerns about her adjustment to the new habitat. However, those concerns were alleviated when she successfully preyed on a boar just three days after her relocation.
The release marks a positive step in the ongoing efforts to increase the tiger population in the region.
