Thunderstorms, Hailstorms, and Rain Predicted in Odisha; IMD Issues Orange and Yellow Warnings

Bhubaneswar: In a welcome development amid the prevailing heatwave, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms, hailstorms, and heavy rainfall across several districts of Odisha in the coming days. An Orange warning has been issued for multiple regions, providing hope for much-needed respite from the scorching temperatures.

At the same time, the IMD has also issued a Yellow alert for heatwave conditions in select districts.

Weather Forecast Details:

Day 1 (Valid till 8:30 AM, April 27, 2025):

• Yellow Warning: Heatwave conditions are very likely at isolated places in Jharsuguda, Boudh, Bolangir, and Sambalpur districts.
• Hot and Humid Conditions: Likely at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur districts.
• Thunderstorm Warning: Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are expected in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nabarangpur, and Nayagarh districts.

Day 2 (Valid from 8:30 AM, April 27 to 8:30 AM, April 28, 2025):

• Orange Warning: Thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph, and hailstorms are likely in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Koraput, and Ganjam districts.

Day 3 (Valid from 8:30 AM, April 28 to 8:30 AM, April 29, 2025):

• Orange Warning: Thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds (50-60 kmph), hailstorms, and heavy rainfall are expected in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bhadrak districts.
• Yellow Warning: Thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds (40-50 kmph), and heavy rainfall may occur in Jajpur, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Jagatsinghpur districts.
• Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are also likely at isolated places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Cuttack districts.

Day 4 (Valid from 8:30 AM, April 29 to 8:30 AM, April 30, 2025):

• Orange Warning: Thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds (50-60 kmph), hailstorms, and heavy rainfall are predicted in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, and Ganjam districts.

The IMD has advised the public to remain cautious and avoid exposure during thunderstorms and heatwave conditions. Authorities have been alerted to take necessary precautions to mitigate potential damage.
