Ten Hospitalised After Consuming Wild Mushrooms in Rayagada Village

Rayagada: Ten individuals from four families in Tikarpada village under Doraguda police limits in Kashipur block of Rayagada district were hospitalised after consuming a curry prepared with wild mushrooms on Saturday evening.

The affected individuals have been identified as Drujya Nayak, Rengu Nayak, Kumari Nayak, Anjani Nayak, Dhanamani Nayak, Lakebati Nayak, Pradeep Jhadia, Tampa Jhadia, Dambu Jhadia, and Kabua Gouda.

According to reports, the families had collected mushrooms from a nearby forest and prepared curry for dinner. Later that night, all ten developed severe symptoms of food poisoning, including vomiting and diarrhoea.

As their condition worsened, they were rushed to Utkal Hospital in Oshapada. Four critically ill patients were later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Rayagada for advanced medical care.

Health officials confirmed that all patients are currently stable and under observation. The incident has raised concerns over the consumption of unidentified wild mushrooms, which can be highly toxic. Authorities have urged locals to avoid consuming forest mushrooms unless verified as safe.
