Temperature in Odisha crosses 45°C-mark for first time

Bhubaneswar: The maximum temperature i.e day temperature in Odisha crossed the 45°C-mark for first time this summer as Jharsuguda reported 45.4 degree Celsius mark today.

The latest bulletin of the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) revealed that mercury rose to 45.4 degree Celsius in Jharsuguda while it touched the 43°C-mark in Sambalpur.

While with 42.4°C Hirakud was Odisha’s third hottest place today, a temperature of 42 degree Celsius was witnessed in Rourkela. Likewise, people of Keonjhar also sizzled at 38.3°C and in Chandabali the temperature was 38.2°C.

Similarly, the residents of the State Capital City Bhubaneswar today witnessed 36°C temperature.

The maximum temperature in the state is expected to rise further as the weather department has issued yellow warning for heat wave conditions for the next three days.

YELLOW WARNING till 8.30 AM of April 22:

  • Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Koraput and Malkangiri.
  • Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj. Gajapati, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Rayagada, Nabarangapur and Kalahandi.

YELLOW WARNING from 8.30 AM of April 22 to 8.30 AM of April 23:

  • Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangapur. Malkangiri and Koraput,
  • Heat wave condition very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Bolangir, Sundargarh and Sambalpur.

YELLOW WARNING from 8.30 AM of April 23 to 8.30 AM of April 24:

  • Heat wave condition very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Boudh, Nuapada, Sonepur, Balangir, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Sundargarh.
  • Hot and Humid Conditions very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati.
