Sundergarh’ s woman entrepreneur shares her story
Bhubaneswar: 35 year old Jayanti Ekka, who travelled a difficult path to reach the pinnacle of success, shared her story of grit and glory.
Born to a poor family of peasants, Jayanti was not good at academics. She however gathered courage to start a small Self Help Group (SHG), named ‘Kalyani’ with a nominal loan of Rs 15,000 in 2003 and then she never looked back.
Within a short span she bagged contracts for serving midday meals (MDM) at a local school. Because of the quality she maintained, she was given some more schools in the district.
Kalyani now employs about a dozen women and is supporting around 50 families in the district Jayanti is now the president of the SHG federation of Sundergarh district which runs 15,000 SHGs. Kalyani has diversified into flyash brick making.
Jayanti narrated the story of her success today at the Make in Odisha Conclave 2018 in Bhubaneswar and was personally congratulated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
