Sujeet Kumar Elected Unopposed to Rajya Sabha from Odisha
Bhubaneswar: BJP candidate Sujeet Kumar was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Odisha on Friday, officials confirmed.
Kumar, who was previously a BJD MP, resigned from the party and his Rajya Sabha membership in September to join the BJP, prompting a by-election for the seat. The BJP nominated him for the by-election, where he emerged victorious without opposition.
Expressing gratitude, Kumar stated, “I will work with full dedication for the people of Kalahandi district and the state. I have the experience in Rajya Sabha.” He received the certificate of election at the Odisha Assembly.
This marks a similar instance to July when Mamata Mohanta, another former BJD MP, resigned from her Rajya Sabha seat to join the BJP and subsequently reclaimed her position through a by-election.
With Kumar’s election, the BJP now holds three Rajya Sabha seats from Odisha. The other two members include Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The opposition BJD continues to hold the remaining seven seats in the Upper House.
