State poll panel initiates process for by-election to three-tier PRIs

Bhubaneswar: The process for filling up of 1,134 vacant posts in 3-tier PRIs has begun in the state. Out of these, by-elections will be held for 5 Zilla Parishad Members, 41 Panchayat Samiti Members, 45 Sarpanches, 272 Ward Members while fresh elections will be held in 771 wards, said Secretary to State Election Commission.
In the last 3-tier Panchayat Elections held in 2022, there were no nominations filed in these 771 wards meant for reserved category.
Therefore, after de-reservation of these wards by the concerned District Collectors, the process for the fresh elections is being initiated, he pointed out.
Further, he said splitting of electoral rolls of the concerned ward from the latest Electoral Rolls prepared by Election Commission of India will be started from April 17th to 22nd.
Similarly, on April 24, ward-wise preliminary electoral rolls will be published at Gram Panchayat headquarters. Then filing of objections and claims will be made by April 30th and the disposal of the same by summary enquiry to be made between May 2nd to 5th.
The final publication of electoral rolls will be on May 6th and two copies of authenticated manuscripts of final electoral rolls will be submitted to the State Election Commission on May 9th, he informed.
