State approves all-encompassing scheme for farmers’ livelihood

The State cabinet Friday approved the Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation (KALIA) Scheme amounting to over Rs 10,000 crores for supporting the small and marginal farmers and landless agricultiural labourers.

The scheme has five components:

1.Support for cultivation by way of grant of Rs 10,000 per family per year(Rs 5000 each for the two cropping seasons)

2.Livelihood support for landless households by way of promoting goat rearing, poultry, fishery, apiary and mushroom cultivation. Farmer is to select any one activity and get an assistance of Rs 12500 per household.

  1. Farmer who does not get benefit as above will get an assistance of Rs 10000 to take care of their agriculture or other requirement.
  2. Life insurance support to cultivators and landless labourers of Rs 2 lakh and personal accident benefit of Rs 2 lakh.
  3. No interest to be paid for crop loans availed from banks up to Rs 50000.

The scheme will be reviewed in 2020-21 and fine-tuned from time to time. The financial outlay is estimated at Rs 1000 crore.
