Srimandir to Remain Shut for Devotees for 5 Hours Today

Puri: Srimandira, the famous Lord Jagannath temple in Puri of Odisha will be shut for devotees for five hours today. The temple administration informed that devotees will be barred from having darshan of the deities from 5 pm to 10 pm in the evening as the ‘Khasapada niti’ will be executed today.

Today is the Dwitiya (second) tithi of the bright fortnight of the month of Chaitra. On this occasion, the Khasapada Niti of Shrijiyu (Lord Jagannath and siblings) will be held in the temple of Puri.

After the Madhyanha Dhupa, the Daitapati devotees will climb on the Ratnasinhasan and perform this secret ritual of Mahaprabhu for a long time.

The Khasapada Niti is performed to protect the Shreepayara of Shrijiyu. In this ritual, the sripayara (feet) of Mahaprabhu are covered with a white cloth. This ritual is performed two to three times a year.

Since this is a secret ritual, the general darshan will be closed for 5 hours, mainly from 5 pm to 10 pm, the temple administration has informed.
