Snake Bite Claims 3 Lives in Boudh

Boudh: In a heartbreaking incident in Chariapali village, Tikarpada panchayat, three children from the same family have died due to snake bites, and their father is in a critical condition. The tragedy struck while the family was asleep.

The victims, Sudhirekha Mallik (13), Shubhrekha Mallik (12), and their younger sister Surbhi Mallik (3), had returned home from their hostel on Sunday to celebrate Nuakhai with their family. After the festivities, the family retired to their bedroom for the night. The two older sisters and their younger sibling were sleeping in the same room with their parents and brother when they were bitten by a poisonous snake.

The situation worsened when the family sought the assistance of a sorcerer instead of immediately going to the hospital. When the sorcerer’s efforts proved unsuccessful, the family took the three girls and their father, Sulendra Mallik, to the Boudh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). The doctors declared the three siblings dead upon arrival, while Sulendra Mallik was admitted in a critical state. His condition worsened, leading to his transfer to VIMSAR, Burla for further treatment.
