Seven Terrorists Killed as BSF Foils Infiltration Bid in Jammu’s Samba District

Jammu: In a major success for the Border Security Force (BSF), seven terrorists were killed during a foiled infiltration attempt along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district late Thursday night.

According to BSF sources, a heavily armed group of terrorists, with fire cover from Pakistan Rangers, tried to cross into the Indian side around 11 p.m. The attempt was swiftly countered by BSF troops, leading to a fierce exchange of fire. “Seven terrorists have been eliminated in the operation, which is still ongoing in the area,” a BSF source said.

This infiltration bid followed a series of attempts by terrorists to target defence installations using drones and low-range missiles. These efforts were neutralised mid-air by India’s advanced air defence systems in Jammu, Samba, R.S. Pura and other strategic locations.

A BSF spokesperson confirmed that the infiltration attempt was one of the most significant in recent months. “The terrorists were forced to retreat, and those who entered Indian territory were neutralised. The alertness of our troops averted a major threat,” he said.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a woman was killed and another injured in heavy mortar shelling by Pakistan in the Uri sector of Baramulla district on Thursday evening. Officials said a civilian vehicle travelling from Razerwani to Baramulla was hit near Mohura. The deceased was identified as Nargis Begum, while Hafeeza Begum sustained injuries.

Pakistani forces continued intense shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri, Tangdhar, Poonch, and Rajouri, as well as in Samba on the International Border, causing panic among civilians.

Following the attacks, air raid sirens were sounded in Jammu and Srinagar, prompting a complete blackout in both cities. Power supply was restored after the threat was neutralised.

In light of the tense security situation, authorities have ordered the closure of all educational institutions across Jammu and Kashmir for two days. Education Minister Sakina Itoo announced that all schools, colleges, and universities—both government and private—will remain closed on Friday and Saturday as a precautionary measure.

Kashmir University Registrar Naseer Iqbal also confirmed the suspension of classes on Friday to ensure student safety.
