Scrutiny of nominations for second phase over

Surjit kumar Dhal,BHUBANESWAR, MARCH 28: Nomination papers of 37 out of 45 candidates  for the Lok Sabha seats and 261 of 299 aspirants have been found valid after scrutiny on Wednesday while the papers of eight nominees were rejected for various reasons for the second phase elections to five Lok Sabha constituencies and their 35 Assembly segments in the State.

A release from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer here this evening said for peaceful conduct of elections 5,255 non-bailable warrants (NBWs) have been executed across the State and a total number of 27,818 persons have been taken into custody under Sections 107/108 of the IPC.

        Besides 3,830 numbers of licensed guns have been deposited with the district administration.One hundred and ten weapons without license have been seized by the police while raids have been conducted over five clandestine weapon factories.

Even explosives weighing 239.032 kgs have been seized following raids at different places, the release said adding, flying squads and police have seized Rs 21.75,410 lakh from vehicles and liquor worth Rs 1.64,59,972 cr.

The release further said that 384 calls were received over the State-level control-room number 0674-2395015 with various complaints relating to electoral matter and 177 complaints were sent to district-level offices for solution.

Similarly immediate solutions were provided against 11,706 complaints received on the State-level voter helpline number 1950.Out of the 380 complaints received through the cVIGIL, 333 complaints were attended to and solved in time.
