SCBMCH Achieves 2nd Liver Transplant Milestone

Cuttack: In a significant achievement, SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack has completed its second liver transplant surgery on Monday. The operation involved 39-year-old Manas Muduli from Nayagarh, who received a liver donated by his wife, Chhabi Mallik.

The complex procedure was executed by a distinguished team of doctors, including Professor Dr Balachandran Menon from AIG Hyderabad, alongside local experts Professor Dr Rajesh Kumar Dora, Professor Dr Promod Kumar Palai, Associate Professor Dr Laxmi Narayan Mohanty, and Professor Dr Kaumudi Patnaik from SCB Medical College. The surgery commenced at 8 am and concluded at 6 pm, lasting a total of 10 hours.

Both the donor and recipient are currently stable and under close observation in the ICU. This successful operation marks SCB Medical College and Hospital’s second liver transplant, following its first procedure on April 3 of this year. The surgery was supported by multiple departments, including Hepatology, Hematology, Radiology, Transfusion Medicine, Anesthesiology, and Surgery.
