Saninik School in Mizoram creates history: Takes in 6 Girl Cadets
For the first time ever, girls enter Sainik Schools in India with the Sainik School in Chhingchhip, Mizoram taking the lead. It has admitted 6 girls among its batch of 60 cadets in the school. These 6 were selected from among thirty girls had applied for admission and had to go through an examination to test their mental skills.
The Sainik schools, under the Ministry of Defence, prepares its students for entry into National Defence Academy, till now a male bastion.
This landmark move has brought down the last barrier for girls who dream of serving their nation in the armed forces. And as one cadet said to the media: What a boy can do a girl can do.
