RSC Bhubaneswar to Launch India’s First ‘Knowledge on Sphere’ System

Bhubaneswar: The Regional Science Centre (RSC), popularly known as Science Park, is on the brink of making history by becoming the first institution in India to host an advanced scientific visualisation system called ‘Knowledge on Sphere’ (KOS).

This state-of-the-art installation features a suspended globe measuring between 4 to 6 feet in diameter and weighing approximately 370 kg. It is equipped to project 360-degree dynamic visuals that bring complex scientific data to life. The system offers immersive insights into diverse subjects such as astronomy, geography, climate change, and environmental science.

Developed entirely in India at a cost of ₹1 crore, the KOS project took about a year to complete. A team of five Indian engineers and scientists worked on the development of this pioneering technology, which is now in its final phase of testing. It is expected to be fully functional by the end of this month.

To support the system’s smooth operation and enhance visitor interaction, RSC has trained four dedicated technicians and set up a specialised hall outfitted with sophisticated hardware, software, and projection equipment.

Once launched, the installation is anticipated to become a major attraction, especially for students, educators, and science enthusiasts. It aims to transform science learning by offering an engaging and interactive approach to data visualisation.
