Rourkela: Elephant calf injured after landmine blasts

Rourkela: In an inhumane incident, an elephant calf was critically injured after it came in contact with a live landmine. The landmine exploded in the dense forests of Saranda in Rourkela of Sundargarh district.
According to information, Maoists had placed landmines in the area. The elephant calf while roaming in the jungle came across the live landmine.
After the blast, the left leg of the elephant calf was critically injured.
Locals informed the Forest department officials of West Singhbhum of Jharkhand and Keonjhar, Rourkela of Odisha who rushed to the spot. They tried to tranquilise the elephant calf to treat its wounds.
UPDATE:
The elephant died after the attack. It was about to be taken to Vantara for treatment. The landmine blast had occurred 10 days ago.
