Rourkela Election in Hurdle

Cuttack (Surjit Kumar Dhal): Orissa High Court has reportedly accepted yet another plea seeking to declare the Rourkela assembly election 2024 null and void and issued a notice to MLA Sarada Nayak. One Rajkumar Yadav, who had field his nomination for Rourkela assembly election but his nomination was rejected, has filed the plea requesting the court to declare the election of MLA Sarada Nayak null and void.
Yadav moved the High Court alleging that Sarada had not mentioned his criminal and other mandatory details in his affidavit while filing the nomination for the assembly election. Therefore, his election to be declared null and void, he demanded. Justice Sashikanta Mishra has reportedly accepted Yadav’s plea for hearing and directed Sarada Nayak to present his side in this regard. The court posted the next hearing of the case to July 27.
This is the second case regarding the election filed against Sarada Nayak in the court. Earlier, BJP leader Dilip Kumar Ray, who lost the election with a margin of 3552 votes, had moved the High Court demanding the cancellation of the Rourkela MLA’s candidacy alleging that Nayak provided false information regarding his criminal cases and assets in the affidavit submitted with his nomination for the election. The matter is under sub-judice.
