Retired Colonel Dies in Hit-and-Run

Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, retired Colonel RK Behera (64) lost his life after being hit by an unidentified vehicle near Chandrasekharpur in Bhubaneswar on Saturday morning. Behera, a former officer of the 120 Battalion and a doctor by profession, was on his morning walk when the accident occurred near the Shani Temple around 5:30 am.

According to reports, Behera, a resident of Defence Colony in Niladri Vihar, was returning home when the speeding vehicle hit him and fled the scene. He suffered severe head injuries and was found lying in a pool of blood. Locals rushed him to Capital Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Police have registered a case and conducted a postmortem. Efforts are underway to track down the vehicle and driver, with CCTV footage from the area being examined.

The incident has raised serious concerns over pedestrian safety and traffic management in the city, as similar accidents have been reported in recent weeks.
