Ravindra Jadeja Retires From T20I Cricket

Indian star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has announced his retirement from T20 International cricket, after India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph. Jadeja’s decision follows similar announcements from teammates Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma, marking the end of an era for Indian cricket.

Jadeja, who made his T20I debut in 2009, took to Instagram to share his decision: “With a heart full of gratitude, I bid farewell to T20 internationals. Like a steadfast horse galloping with pride, I’ve always given my best for my country and will continue to do so in other formats.”

“Winning the T20 World Cup was a dream come true, a pinnacle of my T20 International career. Thank you for the memories, the cheers, and the unwavering support. Jai hind”, he added.

The all-rounder retires from T20Is with an impressive record of 515 runs from 74 matches at a strike rate of 127.16, along with 54 wickets at an economy rate of 7.13. Jadeja participated in six T20 World Cup campaigns throughout his career, finally tasting success in his last appearance.

After the match, Virat Kohli announced his retirement while receiving the Player of the Match trophy, citing it was time for the next generation to take over. Rohit Sharma, during the post-match press conference, reflected on his career coming full circle, having started with a T20 World Cup win in 2007 and now ending with another in 2024.

While Jadeja’s form in the tournament was not at its peak, his overall contribution to Indian cricket in the T20 format has been significant. However, he has confirmed that he will continue to represent India in other formats of the game.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauded Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja for his performance in various departments of the game over the years.

Praising Jadeja the PM posted on X, “Dear Ravindra Jadeja, You have performed exceptionally as an all-rounder. Cricket lovers admire your stylish stroke play, spin and superb fielding. Thank you for the enthralling T20 performances over the years. My best wishes for your endeavours ahead.”
