Puri’s Jagannath Airport Gets Nod, to Handle 46 Lakh Flyers

Bhubaneswar: The proposed Shree Jagannath Airport in Puri has received in-principle approval from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, paving the way for a major boost to Odisha’s air connectivity and tourism infrastructure. The greenfield airport is projected to handle around 46 lakh passengers annually, according to the State Government.
Planned across 1,164 acres, the airport will be developed in three phases with a total investment of ₹5,631 crore. The project aims to meet the growing demand for air travel to the holy city of Puri, one of India’s most important pilgrimage destinations.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu for their support. “The Shree Jagannath Airport will greatly improve regional connectivity and economic prospects in Odisha, while facilitating smooth travel for pilgrims and tourists alike,” he said.
In addition to the Puri airport, the Civil Aviation Ministry also approved a greenfield airport project in Kota, Rajasthan.
Once operational, the Puri airport is expected to offer direct air connectivity to major metropolitan cities across India, further strengthening tourism and commercial links in the region.
