Puri Srimandir Closed for Banak Lagi Ritual Today
Puri: The special Banak Lagi ritual, a sacred and secret ceremony of the holy Trinity, will be performed at Puri’s Srimandir today. As a result, the temple will remain closed to devotees from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
The Banak Lagi, also known as Srimukha Sringara, involves the Datta Mahapatra servitors applying fresh natural colors to the idols of the deities to restore their original appearance. The colors, known as Banaka, are prepared using natural ingredients such as Hingula (yellow), Haritala (red), Kasturi, Keshar, and Kaintha.
This ritual will commence after the completion of all other daily rituals and the second Bhoga Mandap offering of Mahaprabhu. Devotees will be allowed darshan before and after the specified time.
