Puri Minor Burn Victim Recovering After Surgeries at AIIMS Delhi

Bhubaneswar: The 15-year-old girl from Balanga in Puri district, who suffered critical burn injuries in a brutal attack on July 19, has undergone two surgeries and is currently undergoing skin grafting treatment at AIIMS, New Delhi, informed Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) upon her return from Delhi, Parida confirmed that the girl is recovering gradually and is now able to engage in normal conversations. “Doctors have assured that there is no sign of infection at present. However, being a burn injury case, a full recovery could take around 40 to 50 days,” she said.

The state government is also reviewing a compensation package for the victim, Parida added.

The minor was reportedly attacked and set ablaze by three unidentified miscreants while returning home from a friend’s place in Balanga. The horrifying incident triggered widespread outrage across the state.

Deputy CM Parida urged the public to promptly report any similar incidents of violence or abuse. “We’ve instructed the police to act swiftly in such cases. If anyone experiences delay or negligence in response, they can directly contact ministers or reach out to us through email or on **X (formerly Twitter),” she appealed.

Investigations into the case are ongoing, and the police are working to identify and apprehend the culprits behind the attack.
