Puri Jagannath Temple to Regulate Mahaprasad Prices
Puri: The price of Abadha Mahaprasad at the Jagannath Temple in Puri will soon be regulated to ensure affordability for devotees, Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan announced on Thursday.
The decision comes after the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) proposed issuing a rate chart for Mahaprasad. The move follows the temple’s emphasis on using pure ghee in Mahaprasad preparation, which has led to challenges in maintaining stable pricing.
“We are working to regulate the prices of Mahaprasad to address the difficulties faced by devotees,” said Minister Harichandan. “The preparation cost and selling price need to be balanced, and the temple administration is actively addressing the matter. A final decision will be made soon.”
This development follows reports of a threefold increase in Mahaprasad prices before the Holy Kartika month, causing inconvenience to devotees. To ensure quality, the temple administration has also decided to implement regular checks, particularly on the use of pure ghee in Mahaprasad preparation.
The move coincides with concerns over adulteration in temple offerings at other shrines, such as the laddus at Tirupati. The Odisha government and SJTA are keen to prevent similar issues at Puri’s Srimandir.
