Puri Jaganath Temple To Be Closed For 4 Hours; know why

 Puri (Reporters Today Bureau): In a view of the ‘Banaka Lagi’ ritual the Sri Mandir at Puri will remain closed for 4 hours today

Banaka Lagi gets its name from ‘Bana’ means forest and ‘Lagi’ means to apply. Certain rare forest products used to prepare four types of colors- such as haritala (red), hengula (yellow), sankha (white) and black are applied on the face of the deities.

a small group of ‘pujaris’ will be permitted inside the ‘garba gruha’ or sanctum sanctorum for the rituals.

As per tradition, the ‘shringar’ rituals of the sibling deities are generally held seven to eight times a year starting with the one after the Niladri Bije ritual following Rath Yatra.
