Public welfare, social service Jajpur MP’s forte
Jajpur’s pride Sharmistha Sethi
Bhubaneswar, July 22 (Surjit Kumar Dhal): When Sharmistha Sethi was picked as Biju Janata Dal nominees for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in State for Jajpur (SC) constituency, many raised eyebrows. What an administrative officer can do for the people of the constituency being in politics, they had asked. But the commitment and sincerity of Sethi has today silenced all her critics. She is active in politics and never shirks her responsibility in the Lok Sabha. She continues her good work that she used to do as an administrative officer even today garnering the love of the people of her constituency.
Studious as she was, Sethi completed her education and qualified for the State Civil Service in 2000 to start her career as an Assistant Consolidation Officer. Gradually she rose to the rank of Deputy Secretary in 2014 and remained in the post till 2019 when she decided to take a shot at politics and joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal. She was soon in the election fray to emerge victorius.
Like her stint in bureaucracy, Sethi has indulged in politics with a passion. She is in the forefront when matters relating to her constituency need utmost attention. Be it centrally sponsored schemes or laying of train line. During the Covid pandemic her activities were laudable and endeared her to the people. She has proved her critics in the party and outside wrong through her activities.
Sharmistha in Lok Sabha shares committees as Member with several illustrious political leaders in the Committee on Home Affairs, Committee on Empowerment of Women and the Committee on Civil Aviation.
As an officer in the State Government, Sethi had organized and attended different social activities for women, youth and especially children. She has extensively travelled in her constituency and State to enlighten the people regarding different welfare programmes and policies of the government. The stint in State’s administration has come in handy for her to raise issues of State’s interest in the Parliament.
A voracious reader, she loves cooking and writes on issues that need public attention, in her leisure time—a luxury she finds rare in her new ‘avatar’.
