Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to Take Oath as Wayanad MP
New Delhi: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is set to take oath as a Member of Parliament for the first time in the Lok Sabha today after a decisive victory in the Wayanad bypoll. She will join her brother, Rahul Gandhi, MP from Raebareli, and their mother, Sonia Gandhi, a Rajya Sabha member, marking the first time in decades that three members of the Gandhi family will be in Parliament together.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra becomes the third woman in her family, after Sonia Gandhi and late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, to take oath as an MP. Her victory in Wayanad, where she secured 6.22 lakh votes and defeated CPM’s Sathyan Mokeri by over four lakh votes, exceeded Rahul Gandhi’s 2024 margin.
Rahul Gandhi, who previously held both Wayanad and Raebareli seats, vacated Wayanad to retain Raebareli, paving the way for Priyanka’s candidacy. Following her win, Priyanka expressed gratitude, stating, “I will make sure that over time, you truly feel this victory has been your victory… I look forward to being your voice in Parliament.”
Additionally, Congress leader Ravindra Chavan, who triumphed over his BJP rival in the Nanded bypoll, will also take oath in the Lok Sabha today.
