Preparations on for nesting of Olive Ridley turtles

Preparations are on to facilitate nesting of Olive Ridley sea turtles on the beaches of Ganjam district.
The Ridleys usually reach the coast by end of November every year for mating and to lay eggs from February.
Poempeta and Gokharkuda beaches are the spots where nesting takes place.Temporary fence has been put up to prevent encroachment of people and animals and patrolling has been intensified to check entry of trawlers to the sites.
Preparations are also on at the Bahuda river mouth where last year a few hundred turtles had nested.It is being developed as the second mass nesting site.
