Pratap Sarangi Discharged After Parliament Scuffle

New Delhi: BJP MP Pratap Sarangi from Odisha’s Balasore, who was injured during a scuffle in Parliament, was discharged from Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital in New Delhi today. Sarangi, along with fellow BJP MP Mukesh Rajput, was admitted to the hospital following the incident on December 19, which involved a confrontation with Congress members over alleged remarks by Home Minister Amit Shah on Dr. BR Ambedkar.

Reports suggest that Sarangi suffered head injuries when Congress MP Rahul Gandhi allegedly pushed Rajput, causing him to fall on Sarangi on the stairs during a heated protest. Both MPs sustained head injuries, with Sarangi requiring five stitches on his forehead. He was under observation in the hospital’s ICU. Rajput lost consciousness and had elevated blood pressure at the time of admission.

Following the scuffle, the BJP condemned the incident as “hooliganism” and lodged a complaint against Rahul Gandhi at Parliament Street Police Station. Based on the complaint, Gandhi was booked under multiple sections of the law, including charges of voluntarily causing hurt and assault.

In response, the Congress party rejected the allegations, claiming that BJP MPs physically manhandled its president, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi. A counter-complaint was filed by Congress.

The Delhi Police Crime Branch has taken over the investigation, as both parties have lodged complaints against each other.
