Potato Supply Resumes in Odisha, Prices Drop Slightly
Cuttack: Six potato-laden trucks arrived in Chhatra Bazar, Odisha, offering some relief to consumers amid rising potato prices. Two trucks came from Uttar Pradesh, while four arrived from West Bengal.
Following the arrival, the wholesale price of potatoes dropped to Rs 36 per kg from Rs 38, with retail prices falling to Rs 43 per kg. This comes after West Bengal previously halted potato exports due to reduced crop yield. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced that full supplies would resume in February and March after the harvest.
Meanwhile, potato suppliers in Kolkata have protested the ban. The Pragatisila Potato Suppliers Union has decided to halt local supply in West Bengal following a failed meeting with state minister Becharam Manna. No resolution was reached during the talks.
